TARRANT COUNTY – (WBAP/KLIF)- Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley has issued a seven-day disaster declaration that could be extended again. The declaration allows the county to chase federal reimbursement and assistance should thresholds be met.

Extremely hot and dry conditions in the area have led to runaway wildfire that are sparking under conditions they would not have been lit before. Last week, a kitchen fire grew to destroy three homes and damage more; the Balch Springs fire wiped out nine homes and did damage to at least two dozen. The Balch Springs fire was thought to have begun in an empty field next to a row of homes; sparked when a crew cutting the weeds apparently struck a rock or a piece of metal.
